Tegucigalpa, the capital city of Honduras looks like a really big town spread out between the hills and valleys of central Honduras because there are very few high rise buildings. It is a relaxed place and an excellent starting point for exploring the country because it has good airline and bus connections to the entire country, including the Bay Islands. Many sights can be visited within a day from Tegucigalpa. Be sure not to miss nearby Santa Lucia, La tigra national park National Park, and Comayagua.

Spanish is the principal language and is spoken throughout the country, although English (spoken with a broad Caribbean accent) is the language of choice in the Bay Islands. The remaining indigenous peoples have their own distinct languages.

Honduran crafts include wood carving (notably wooden instruments), basketry, embroidery and textile arts, leathercraft and ceramics. The country's cuisine is based around beans, rice, tortillas, fried bananas, meat, potatoes, cream and cheese.

Pristine beaches and amazing jungle-covered hills, heartwarming people and unique cultures, world renowned diving and endless activities, authentic Caribbean charm and inexpensive accommodations. This Eden is the island of Roatan, the most developed of the Bay Islands chain located just 40 miles northeast of mainland.
